After Reading your Book but before taking an AR test - The Bookadventure.com site is no longer available. We are currently looking for other pre-quiz sources. In the interim, to adequately prepare for an AR Quiz try the following stategies:
  • Keep a note taking book mark and record the who, what, when, where, why information for each chapter of the chapter book
  • Record a video summarizes each chapter of the chapter book and then play back the videos as a review after you finish the book
  • Log notes from each chapter on an electrical device (phone, tablet, ipad, computer) and review the notes after you finish the book
  • Do quick sketches with key words for each chapter of book and review after you finish book
  • Make i-movie or comic strip summarizing each chapter of book or the entire book when complete
  • Complete an AR Summary report as you are reading the book and then review after you finish book
  • Have someone pick out random questions from each chapter to ask you after you finish each chapter, record those questions/answers. Then do the same after you finish the entire book
  • Read a book with a partner/parent/group and do a question jam session after each chapter. Have quick study group quizzing each other before taking the AR test
  • When you have completed one of the above and are ready to take the AR test, bring in book with note from parents indicating you are ready to take the AR test

Please note that Accelerated Reading Goals are all individually set in accordance with each child's skill level and they are encouraged to do their personal best. Each student's points and goals are different and are based on the STAR test. Individual Reading Diagnostic packets with your child's individual reading level/goals and an explanation of the program was sent home in the beginning of the year and updated reading level/goals will be sent out for each subsequent goal period. Please be sure to review this important information as it provides you with your child's AR user name and password, how to get updated e-mails after each AR quiz your child takes, and much more.

Each student's progress and growth is assessed each time they complete a book and take a test. Each book has a point value. By passing the test for that book, the student earns points and gets closer to their reading goal. Please note that we will be reading in class in addition to the required 20 minutes of reading that your child should be doing nightly so at a minimum they should be getting at least 30 minutes of daily reading. All reading done at home needs to be logged on the Homework Reading Log. When you feel that they are ready to take the AR quiz at school, please indicate that on the Homework Reading Log. It is especially helpful if you can send them in with the AR book when they are ready to take an AR quiz so we can be sure we have pulled up the correct AR quiz in our system. If that is not possible, please provide the title of the book and the author. I will be sending home a "Ready to Take AR Quiz" Form that you can complete and attach to the book when they are ready to take an AR quiz.

Students will also have opportunities to take AR quizzes in the mornings after school starts in our class from 8:00-8:15 and during our AR/DEAR time from about 1:00-1:20 each day. As with Daily Homework Folders, we have a special box in our room where students are suppose to put all AR books and forms indicating that they are ready to take an AR quiz. For any AR books that they read at school, they have an AR summary report that must be completed and signed off by the teacher before they are allowed to take AR quizzes. We do not require this of any books they read at home as long as they have an 85% or higher average percent correct and you have signed the Homework Reading Log indicating that they are ready to take the AR quiz at school. The purpose for these procedures is to help them achieve an 85% or higher passage rate on all AR quizzes that they take.
